Project Description

Project Objectives

The VENetIan Virtual Archive project aims at improving both the preservation and the consultation of archival-bibliographic materials (especially the cartographic collections) belonging to historical archives and libraries (the Venice State Archive, the Marciana National Library of Venice, the Cephalonia County Archive and the Austrian State Archive) using the Internet as communication media.

Through remote access, the cultural and historical visibility of these institutions will be enhanced. The development and circulation of academic research that originates from cultural heritage will be supported through publishing an editorial collection.

More specifically, several different cultural institutions, such as libraries and historical archives, will be virtually connected so that both on-site and on-line users will have access to the same ancient documents through a series of free and added-value services.
