The fonds

The archive main stock consists of the records of the political and administrative activity of the Commune of Ravenna during the period from the 13th century up to around the year 1919. Also worth mentioning are the registers of landed property of the community, the topographical maps of the area of Ravenna from the 15th to the 19th century and an outstanding collection of announcements of local interest, which cover a period from 1546 to 1859.

Other local archives

Other local archives are: the archives of the community of S. Alberto, the city boarding-school, the Theatres, the Testi Rasponi, Lovatelli and Gamba families and the Trapani photographic collection, which constitutes an important documentation of the area between World War 1 and the reconstruction after World War 2.

The archive is largely provided with inventories; the Trapani collection is only available on CD.

Photographic service

The archive is located inside the Classense City Library where there is also a photographic service.

A complete summary with reference to indexes and inventories can be found in L'archivio storico comunale di Ravenna. Guida ai fondi, ed. Dante Bolognesi, Ravenna 1996.
