	Karlowitz, treaty of this was concluded in 1699 between various European powers and the Turks who had taken part in a large-scale war: Austria came out the victor and annexed Hungary and Transylvania. The Venetian Republic also enjoyed some success, obtaining Morea, the island of Santa Maura, confirmation of the islands of the archipelago which it had possessed before the war, and recognition of its controlling power on Castelnuovo and Cattaro
